Most videos have a few seconds of fumbling at the start and a few more at the end, and almost every size problem is really a length problem. Trimming is the single most effective thing you can do to a file: cutting a two-minute clip to twenty seconds removes roughly five sixths of the bytes, which no amount of quality tuning will match. Set where it starts and where it ends, and the tool builds a new file containing only that stretch — on your device, with nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Does trimming reduce the quality?

The clip is re-encoded, so there is a small generational loss, the same as any conversion. At the High setting it is not something you would notice. What you gain is far larger: the output contains only the seconds you kept, so a trim is nearly always a dramatic reduction in size even at the highest quality.

Why does trimming the end of a long video still take a while?

The decoder has to walk through the file to reach your start point — video frames depend on the frames before them, so it cannot simply jump. Trimming saves you output, not waiting. A cut near the beginning of a long file finishes much faster than one near the end.

Can I cut a piece out of the middle and join the rest?

Not in one pass. This tool keeps one continuous stretch. To drop a section from the middle, trim the part before it and the part after it separately, then join them in an editor. Keeping one range is what covers the common case — cutting dead air off the front and back.

Will the audio stay in sync?

Yes. Both tracks are cut to the same range and re-timed together. If you do not want the audio at all, the remove-audio tool strips it in a single step.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The trim happens inside your browser using your device's own video hardware, and the file is gone from memory as soon as you close the page.
