Word to PDF online

A .docx file describes what a document contains and how it should look, but not where anything sits on a page — Word works that out each time you open it. Converting to PDF therefore means doing that layout work: measuring every word, breaking lines, and flowing text from page to page. That is exactly what this tool does, in your browser, keeping your headings, lists, tables, images, alignment and emphasis intact.

Frequently asked questions

Will my PDF look exactly like it does in Word?

Very close, with one honest exception: fonts. A .docx names the fonts it wants but does not include them, and a web page cannot read the fonts installed on your computer. Your text is therefore set in the closest standard match — a serif font stays serif, a monospaced font stays monospaced — which means individual line breaks can fall in slightly different places. Headings, lists, tables, images, bold, italic, colour and alignment all come through as they are.

Why will it not accept my .doc file?

They share a name but not a format. A .docx is a ZIP archive of XML, introduced in 2007 and readable by anything; a .doc is a much older binary format that essentially only Word itself understands. Open the file in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and use Save As to make a .docx, then convert that.

Are images and tables included?

Yes. PNG and JPEG images are embedded at their intended size, and tables are laid out as rows and columns. Word also allows a few image formats a PDF cannot carry directly, such as EMF and WMF — if any of those turn up, the tool tells you how many were left out rather than silently dropping them.

What happens to text in other alphabets?

The standard PDF fonts cover Latin scripts and Western European accents. Text in Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Cyrillic or Greek, and emoji, cannot be drawn with them, so those characters are left out and the tool tells you exactly how many were affected. It will not quietly hand you a document with holes in it.

Is there a file size limit?

No limit is set by us, but the work happens in your browser using your device's memory. Documents up to around 50 MB are comfortable on a desktop computer. A very long document on an older phone may run out of memory.

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. It is read and converted entirely inside your browser and disappears from memory as soon as you close or reload the page. Nothing is sent to a server.
