Frequently asked questions
Which format should I convert to?
JPG for photographs where file size matters. PNG when you need transparency, or crisp text and lines that must not soften. WebP when you want PNG's features at roughly JPG's size — the sensible default for websites.
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Only if your browser can display HEIC, which Safari on Apple devices can and most others cannot. If your file is rejected, the simplest route is to change your iPhone's camera setting to "Most Compatible", which saves as JPG directly.
What happens to animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is converted. JPG, PNG and WebP output here are single images, so the animation is not carried over.
Will converting improve quality?
No. Converting preserves what is already in the file and can never restore detail that an earlier compression discarded. Converting a low-quality JPG to PNG gives you a large file that looks exactly the same.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
