Video Converter online
Converting video used to mean installing software or trusting a website with your file. This tool does it in the page, using WebCodecs — direct access to the video encoder built into your device — so a conversion takes seconds and your file never leaves your computer. Convert to MP4 when something needs to play everywhere, to WebM when you are putting video on a website, or pull the audio out as MP3 when the picture is not the point.
How to use video converter
Upload your video
Drag in an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV file, or click to choose one.
Choose a format
MP4 plays on essentially everything. WebM is smaller and ideal for websites. MP3 keeps the sound and discards the picture.
Convert and download
Your device does the encoding, then hands you the finished file.
Frequently asked questions
Which format should I choose?
MP4 if you are unsure — phones, TVs, editors and every social platform accept it. WebM if the video is going on a website you control: it is meaningfully smaller at the same quality, and every modern browser plays it, though some older TVs and editing programs do not. MP3 when you only want the sound, such as pulling a recording out of a video call or lifting audio from a lecture.
Can I convert a video to MP3?
Yes. Choose MP3 and the video track is discarded, leaving just the audio. It is the usual way to get a podcast, an interview or a recorded meeting out of a video file at a fraction of the size.
Will converting reduce the quality?
Any conversion between compressed formats re-encodes the video, and re-encoding always loses a little. It is normally invisible at the default setting. What you should avoid is converting the same file repeatedly, back and forth between formats — each round trip compounds the loss. Convert once, from the original.
Why is one of the formats missing for my file?
The available formats depend on what your browser can encode, which varies by browser and device. If a format you need is not offered or fails, Chrome supports the widest range. A file with no video in it will only offer the audio formats.
How is this different from the video compressor?
They share the same engine, pointed at different goals. The compressor keeps your file's format and makes it smaller. The converter changes the format and keeps the quality. If your problem is a size limit, use the compressor; if something will not play, use this one.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser, and the file disappears from memory as soon as you close or reload the page.
