VAT Calculator

Add VAT to a price, or find what a total was before VAT.

Standard rates as commonly published. Rates change and some goods are exempt or zero-rated — confirm the rate that applies to you with your tax authority.

Adding VAT: total = amount × (1 + rate ÷ 100)

Removing VAT: amount before VAT = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). Taking the rate off the total directly (total × 7.5%) gives the wrong answer.

Everything is processed on your device. Nothing you upload or type is sent to a server, and nothing is stored.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add VAT to a price?

Multiply the price by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. At 7.5%, ₦10,000 becomes ₦10,000 × 1.075 = ₦10,750.

How do I remove VAT from a total?

Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. At 7.5%, ₦10,750 ÷ 1.075 = ₦10,000. Multiplying the total by 7.5% and subtracting gives the wrong answer.

Which VAT rate should I use?

The rate that applies to your goods or services where you are registered. Rates change and some items are exempt or zero-rated, so confirm with your tax authority or accountant.

Can I use it for other currencies?

Yes. Choose naira, dollars, pounds, euros, cedis, shillings or rand; the maths is the same.
